Paris has set the objective to develope more cycling infrastruture in order to encourage alternative transportation methods. In the last few years, the city of Paris has deployed permanent bicycle counters to evaluate the need of cycling amenities.

Due to the recent health crisis, the City has also begun to measure bicycle traffic on temporary bike paths. Counters are located on bike lanes and on certain bus lanes open to bikes. Other vehicles, such as motorcycles, are not counted.
